Footprints are city-block-sized hexagons that automatically fill in on the map as Odyssey records your location.
You can see your footprints in several places in Odyssey.
Footprints in the day view
In the Day view, footprints appear on the map alongside your check-ins.
Dark blue = footprints from the selected day
Yellow = new footprints first logged on that day
Light blue = footprints from another day
You can quickly spot days where you explored somewhere new.
Footprints in the Timeline view
In the Timeline view, each day shows its total footprint count, plus how many were new that day.
You can at a glance see which days you spent in your usual routine, and which days you might have traveled or gone to a new place.
Footprints to help add visits
When adding a visit, you can filter places to only those within the Footprints you logged that day.
When finishing a visit, Odyssey can also suggest a time based on the first Footprint recorded at that place that day.
How Footprints are Collected
With your permission, Odyssey automatically collects Footprints in the background using your iPhone’s location services. As you move throughout your day, your iPhone periodically provides Odyssey with your approximate location, which Odyssey converts into small city-block-sized hexagons called Footprints.
Odyssey stores Footprints instead of a precise GPS trail to help preserve your privacy while also reducing storage usage and battery consumption. Collecting Footprints is very battery efficient, even when running throughout the day.
Your Footprints are stored on your iPhone only. Only you can see them.
